The controversy of 1,563 students passing the NEET exam for admission in medical and BDS by giving grace marks has become a topic of discussion across the country. During the hearing of this case on Thursday, a new formula was presented by the Central Government and NAT in the Supreme Court for grace marks.
According to which the central government and NAT have decided to cancel the grace marks of 1,563 students. New scorecards will be prepared without their grace marks. These 1,563 students will be given the option to re-appear for the exam on June 23. If 1,563 students want to re-appear for the exam, they can re-appear for the exam on 23rd. The result will be declared on the 30th. Students can appear for counseling on July 6 with a scorecard without new grace marks or with the marks obtained in the new exam. Several states and thousands of students had filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging large-scale irregularities in the NEET exam. In which the government and NAT presented a new revised proposal in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The court has now decided to hear the paper leak case further on July 8. The petitioners said that the grace marks of 1,563 students who appeared in the exam are wrong and should be canceled. The counseling to be done on the basis of the current result should also be canceled and the NEET exam should also be canceled and taken again. The case is currently being heard by a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta.
What is the controversy?
In the NEET exam, 67 students got full 720 marks. Out of these, six students were from Faridabad center in Haryana. Students from Meghalaya, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Surat and Chandigarh centers complained about the time cut. Therefore, 1563 students were given grace marks due to lack of time. Out of 67, 44 were given grace marks due to change in the answer key of Physics and six students were given grace marks due to lack of time.
The court had earlier refused to cancel the examination or counselling
In the earlier hearing on 11th, the bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice A. Amanullah of the Supreme Court had said that the complaints of malpractice and giving grace marks in the NEET exam have affected the sanctity of the exam. Therefore, the Central Government and NAT should respond within 4 weeks. The court had refused to cancel the exam or cancel the counseling at that time.
Corruption allegations are baseless: Education Minister
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that there is no evidence of NEET paper leak. The allegations of corruption against NTA are false and baseless. The case is being heard in the Supreme Court, whose decision we will accept. Care will be taken to ensure that no student is harmed.
