Delhi News: Double admission in university next year: UGC

UGC chief Jagadesh Kumar said that Indian universities and higher education institutions will now be able to conduct admissions twice a year like foreign universities. Universities and higher education institutions in India have been given permission to go ahead with this scheme by the University Grants Commission.

As per the admission cycle from the academic session 2024-25, students will be admitted twice a year in July-August and January-February. Kumar said that if Indian universities admit students twice a year, then thousands of students who missed admission in July-August will get the benefit of taking admission in the second phase in January-February. Sometimes students who miss admission in the July-August session due to delay in board results, health problems or other personal reasons can get the benefit of admission in the second phase of admission.

The students' studies will not be disturbed for the entire year

Offering admission twice a year by universities will encourage students to take admission in any subject. Being denied admission in the ongoing phase of admission will not waste an entire year of his studies. He will not have to wait for a whole year to get admission in that university. Industries can also conduct campus interviews twice a year as per their requirement to provide employment. This will increase employment opportunities for graduates. The provision of bi-annual admission will enable Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to plan their resource distribution and manage faculty, laboratories, classrooms and support services. This will make all the work in the university easier.

Foreign cooperation can be increased and student exchange can take place

If universities and HEIs in India adopt this system, our higher education institutions will be able to increase collaboration with foreign institutions and easily exchange students. This will increase our competitiveness globally and improve global educational standards. Higher education institutions can adopt the biannual admission system only if they have sufficient faculty or adequate staff. However, they can take advantage of this system if they wish. Higher education institutions that want to increase their enrollment and start new programs in emerging areas can adopt the biannual admission system. Of course, institutions have to change and amend their rules for biannual admission.

This will be implemented in Gujarat also.

University officials said that after issuing the notification, the government will implement the UGC order in Gujarat as well. This decision will definitely benefit the students and their studies will not stop. However, the modalities in this regard will be known only after the announcement.
