Olympic-quota shooter left out of India squad, trials given priority | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

The Shooting Federation of India has announced a 15-member rifle and pistol team for the Paris Olympics, with female shooter Manu Bhaker being the only player to participate in both events. The team was selected through a virtual meeting. The team includes eight rifle and seven pistol shooters.

The selection committee has decided to give priority to the trial results, closing the door on shooters like world champion Rudraksh Patil. Although Patil did not perform well in his favourite 10m air rifle, he is pushing to make the Olympic team. He has secured an Olympic quota.

The federation has argued that the quota in shooting is given to the country, not to individual players. All the team members, coaches and support staff are currently attending the Volmarange Les Mines camp in France. All the athletes will return home for two weeks before leaving for the Olympics. The shotgun team will be announced after the World Cup in Lonato, Italy. The Paris Olympics will begin on July 26 and end on August 11.
