Aadhaar-Ration Card Linking: There is good news for ration card holders. The government has extended the deadline for linking ration card with Aadhaar for beneficiaries taking ration under the Public Distribution System (PDS) by three more months. According to the notification issued by the Central Food and Public Distribution Department, now beneficiaries can link ration card with Aadhaar till 30 September 2024.

Earlier the last date for linking ration card with Aadhaar was 30 June 204. Which has been extended. Even before this, the government has extended the deadline several times. 99.8 percent ration cards in the country are linked to Aadhaar.

It is mandatory to link ration card with Aadhaar. In February 2017, the government had instructed to compulsorily link ration card with Aadhaar card to provide benefits under PDS. Those who have not linked Aadhaar will not be able to avail the benefits of government schemes like food grains, gas cylinders available under subsidy. In some states, ration card can also be cancelled.

What to do if you don't have an Aadhaar card?

If the ration card is not linked to Aadhaar within the stipulated time limit, the benefits will not be available. Therefore, linking is necessary. Beneficiaries who do not have an Aadhaar card can immediately get an Aadhaar card by visiting the nearest Jan Sampark Seva Kendra. However, the ration cards of most PDS beneficiaries are already linked to Aadhaar.

How to link ration card with Aadhaar

One can visit the official website of the Public Distribution System (PDS) of their state. Each state has its own portal. So do a Google search for your state. You can register your ration card number, Aadhaar card number and registered mobile number by choosing the option to link ration card with Aadhaar. Now click on the submit button. In which an OTP will come. After verification of which you can link your ration card to Aadhaar. You will get information about this through SMS. For which your mobile number should be linked to Aadhaar card.
