Driving without third party insurance is a punishable offence

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, driving a motor vehicle without a valid motor third party insurance is a punishable offence. As per Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all vehicles plying on Indian roads are required to have third party insurance to cover third party risks.

Third party insurance is now a legal requirement and an important aspect of being a responsible road user. It helps to provide assistance to victims in case of an accident and damage.

There can be jail along with fine

According to the information, now driving or allowing someone to drive without third party insurance can land you in trouble. Such people may have to face jail along with fine for violating the law. According to the new rules, for the first time offence, there can be a jail term of up to 3 months and a fine of Rs 2000. If found guilty for the second time, there can be a jail term of up to 3 months and a fine of Rs 4000.

Renew your policy as soon as possible

In such a situation, if your car insurance has expired or is about to expire, get the policy renewed immediately. Otherwise, this mistake can prove to be very costly. The responsibility of implementing these rules has been placed on the competent authorities.
