Mumbai: Even though the state government held a special session to give reservation to the Maratha community and passed the resolution unanimously, we are being given reservation that we do not want. Jarange has again taken up the cause of agitation demanding reservation for OBCs. Therefore, the High Court has directed Manoj Jarang to clarify the role played by Patil.
How are Jarange and Maratha Movement Committee going to carry out the proposed movement? Who will take responsibility that the movement will not be violent? Such questions have been asked. Will you take responsibility that there will be no law and order situation in the state? The High Court has directed Manoj Jarange to clarify his role etc. on this issue. Jarange's lawyer assured the High Court that our movement will remain peaceful.
Jarange has given an ultimatum to the government to accept their demand. From next February 24, they will block roads simultaneously in every village of the state. Jarange has said that the movement will not be allowed to turn violent. From March 1, the elders, women and men of the state will fast unto death. If anyone dies in the movement then the government will be responsible. After this, on March 3, Jarange has asked to close only one road in the districts of the state.
State Advocate General Birendra Saraf told the court that Jarange Patil has again called for the road blockade. He has asked lakhs of people to postpone important events like weddings as protests are expected across the state.
Jarange Patil's lawyer objected to the government immediately initiating the hearing in place of original petitioner Gunaratna Sadavarte. If something goes wrong the government has the power. If the government feels helpless then it should apply to the court and seek help from the court. After that we will respond to the application.
Jarange's lawyer further said that the government is firing by placing a gun on the court's shoulder. On one hand the government is talking to the agitators and on the other hand it is also seeking orders from the court against them.
The court asked to confirm whether the Jarange movement would be peaceful or not. After the assurance of the lawyer, the court kept the hearing on 26 February.
