Cabinet approves 3 crore houses under PMAY

New Delhi: In its first meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the construction of three crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

This was the first meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet after assuming a historic tenure for the third consecutive time. All NDA ministers were present in this meeting. In the cabinet meeting, approval has been given to build a total of three crore houses, both rural and urban. Officials said that this decision has been taken after the increase in the number of families wanting such houses.

The Government of India has been implementing the PMAY scheme since 2015-16. These schemes provide pucca houses with basic amenities to the urban and rural poor. A total of 4.21 crore houses have been constructed under the PMAY scheme in the last ten years.

All the families benefiting from this scheme are provided with household toilet, LPG connection, electricity connection and drinking water connection. These facilities are provided by integrating various schemes of the state and central government.

In his first address to PMO officials after assuming power for the third time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his office should become the PMO of the people instead of Modi's PMO and should work as the driving force to guide the entire system and create new energy. The country has put its trust in us. We have to work regardless of time.

The Prime Minister said that ten years ago the PMO was seen as an important centre of power. I was not born to power and I have no desire for it. Our efforts since 2014 have been aimed at transforming the PMO into a service centre.

The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to the 140 crore citizens of India and said that these citizens are not mere humans but an incarnation of God. When I take a decision in the government, I believe that I have worshipped these 140 crore citizens. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of determination and hard work to achieve the set goals.

The Prime Minister further said that the collective goal should be to make India a developed nation by 2047. We have only one goal – Nation First. There is only one intention – Developed India by 2047. I have said publicly, 'Every moment of mine is in the name of the country.' I have promised the countrymen to work 24 hours a day for the goal of 2047. I expect the same from my team. Completing on time is good but not perfect. I believe that there should be improvement in the work set. If we work with such an intention, I am sure that we will be able to realize our dreams and aspirations.

The Prime Minister said that we are not those people for whom the office starts at a particular time and closes at a particular time. We are not bound by time.

Let us tell you that the heads of states of the neighboring countries participated in the swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, in which President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to the Prime Minister and his team of ministers.
