Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 : 71 ministers took oath in the Modi cabinet. But most eyes were on Ravneet Singh Bittu from Punjab. In fact, even after losing the election, Ravneet Singh Bittu was included in Modi's team. However, this is not the first incident. Even before this, Prime Minister Modi has included two leaders who lost the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab in his team. So let's see who became a Union Minister from Punjab even after losing the election…
Arun Jaitley
BJP veteran Arun Jaitley contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amritsar seat in Punjab. But Congress fielded Captain Amarinder Singh against him. The result was that Arun Jaitley had to face defeat by 102770 votes. Despite the defeat, Arun Jaitley's stature increased in Modi's first term and he was made the Finance Minister.
Hardeep Singh Puri
Hardeep Singh Puri's name is also included among the leaders who became ministers after losing the Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, Hardeep Singh Puri contested for the first time from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat of Punjab on a BJP ticket. Congress candidate Gurjit Singh Aujla defeated Puri by 99626 votes. However, despite losing the election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi entrusted Hardeep Singh Puri with a big responsibility at the Center. In his second term, he was made the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Ravneet Singh Bittu
Ravneet Singh Bittu, who was a two-time MP from Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat of Punjab, joined BJP before the elections. But he could not win the election from Ludhiana on BJP ticket. He defeated Congress candidate Amarendra Singh Raja Vading by 20942 votes. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a big gift to Bittu by including him as a minister in his team.
So what does one become a minister?
Actually, BJP's eyes are now on Punjab. The party wants to establish its hold here at any cost. The party won two seats each in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Arun Jaitley was a big face of BJP. Despite the defeat, it was inevitable to include him in the cabinet. In 2019, Hardeep Puri was given the responsibility of winning the Amritsar seat, but Modi did not disappoint him despite his failure.
BJP is looking for a big face
After Navjot Singh Sidhu left the party, BJP is looking for a big Sikh face in Punjab. Perhaps now their eyes are on Ravneet Singh Bittu. This is reflected in Bittu's statement. Before taking oath, Bittu had said that if he gets a chance to become CM, he will definitely become one.
The winners have also become ministers
Faces who won elections from Punjab have also found a place in Modi's team. SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal has been a Union minister twice. Former Hoshiarpur MP Vijay Sampla became a minister in Modi's first term. Som Prakash, who won the election from Hoshiarpur in the second term, was made a Minister of State at the Centre.
