Khunti, June 9 (HS). Khunti MP Kalicharan Munda paid tribute to freedom fighter and folk hero Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his martyrdom day by garlanding his statue in his maternal village Chalkad in Adki block on Sunday. Hundreds of villagers from various villages situated in the hilly area including Chalkad reached Chalkad on the occasion.
After the tribute program, the villagers welcomed Kalicharan Munda in a traditional way with drums on his arrival at Chalkad for the first time after becoming an MP. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chalkad Grampradhan Abraham Mundu, in which Kalicharan Munda said that this land belongs to Lord Birsa Munda. Birsa Munda fought to protect the water, forest and land of the tribals. We are free today only because of great martyrs like Birsa Munda who sacrificed everything at the age of just 25. The MP said that the way Lord Birsa Munda gathered the people and fought the British despite the lack of resources is an inspiration for all of us.
He said that we have to fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of Dharti Aba who fought for freedom and the rights of tribals to water, forest and land which are their means of livelihood. His courage, dedication and sacrifice will always inspire every Indian. Dharti Aba blew the trumpet of freedom struggle against the British to save identity, autonomy and culture.
