Closed platforms of Sealdah station reopened, problems expected to reduce

Kolkata, 09 June (HS). Train movement has been started from platform number 1 to 5 of Sealdah station on Sunday. This is expected to reduce the problems of passengers.

It was already announced that trains would run from these platforms from 2 pm on Sunday, but two hours before that, the railway management started passenger service from 12 noon. However, it will take time for the services to become completely normal. Officials have assured to reduce the problems as soon as possible.

It is noteworthy that since the beginning of June, platform extension work was going on on Sealdah Main and North section to run trains with 12 coaches, due to which platform number 01 to 5 were closed. Railway decided to block the power. Many trains were stopping till Dum Dum instead of Sealdah while many trains were cancelled. Due to this, passengers had to face a lot of trouble. These days, i.e. from Friday to Sunday afternoon, the train was running late and passengers were getting crushed in the heavy crowd. During this time, a passenger died after falling from the train in Titagarh. Due to which, anger was increasing among the passengers. In view of this, the closed platforms were opened two hours before time.

Now the question is how soon the services on the platform will be resumed. The railways have promised to solve the problem soon. Apart from the expansion of the platform at Sealdah, work is also going on on signaling. Work is going on from route relay interlocking to electronic interlocking. Even after this change, the problem is likely to persist for a few days.
