Narendra Modi oath ceremony: Narendra Modi is going to take oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third time today (9 June) in the capital New Delhi. Foreign guests including heads of many countries are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Equaled Jawaharlal Nehru's record
Narendra Modi is the second leader after Jawaharlal Nehru to become Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Nehru won the 1952, 1957 and 1962 Lok Sabha elections to become Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. After nearly 6 decades, Narendra Modi will equal this record once again.
Even Indira Gandhi could not record it
Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India from January 1966 to March 1977. She then became Prime Minister again on 14 January 1980, however, she could not break Nehru's record as he was assassinated as Prime Minister. BJP won 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. However, they are going to form the government in coalition as they are 32 seats short of a majority (272).
Jawaharlal Nehru's record
Jawaharlal Nehru served as Prime Minister of India for 16 years and 286 days from 1947 to 1964. After winning the Lok Sabha elections in 1951–52, the Congress Party won a majority in 1957 and 1962 and Nehru became Prime Minister again.
