In this country, being overweight will create problems for you, know how you get punished?

Metabo Laws in Japan: There are strange laws in many countries of the world. Which makes us wonder if such laws can even exist. One such law exists in Japan as well. However, Japanese people live longer and people here are very fit. Japanese people play some physical sport at least once a week. The reason behind all this is the Metabo Law. Which does not allow people to gain weight.

Walking habits of Japanese people

Due to this strange law, the lowest obesity rate in the world is found here. The fitness index of Japan is also very good. The balanced diet of the people here and the transport system also help people to stay fit. And the diet includes vegetables, fish and rice. Apart from this, obesity is not seen much among people due to the habit of walking of Japanese people.

What kind of strange law is this?

In an effort to curb the rising obesity rate, the Metabo Law was introduced in 2008 by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. It requires that waist sizes of men and women aged 40 to 74 be measured every year. The waist size for men is set at 33.5 inches and for women at 35.4 inches. Employers and local government are mandated with a minimum 65% participation and a target of a 25% reduction in obesity rates is set. Failure to meet this target is punishable. However, this has been misinterpreted to mean that the 'Metabo' law outlaws obesity.

What does Metabo Law require?

Out of the total population of 12.5 million in Japan, 29.1% are aged 65 years or above. This means that the number of elderly people in Japan is very high. Their health is the responsibility of the government. Therefore, the Japanese government does not want diabetes and heart diseases to increase among people due to obesity. The government has to spend a lot on health.

What is the punishment for obesity?

Officially, there is no provision for any major punishment. But some rules have to be followed. If people are found overweight, they have to follow many rules and in some cases they have to pay a fine as well. Many companies organize fitness classes for obese employees. In which they are also told ways and exercises to lose weight.
