New Delhi, June 7 (HS). The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi High Court to decide on the bail plea of Sukanya Mandal, daughter of Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mandal, accused in the cattle smuggling case worth crores of rupees, within three months. A bench headed by Justice Arvind Kumar gave this order.
On Sukanya Mandal's bail plea, the Delhi High Court had issued a notice to the ED on 5 July 2023. After that this petition is pending in the High Court. Sukanya Mandal has challenged the trial court's order rejecting the bail plea in the Delhi High Court. On June 1, 2023, the Rouse Avenue Court rejected Sukanya Mandal's bail plea. According to the ED, Sukanya is the daughter of Anubrata Mandal, the accused in this case. Sukanya is a government teacher in West Bengal. In this case, cash worth crores of rupees has been deposited in various bank accounts of Sukanya.
The ED arrested Sukanya Mandal on 26 April 2023 after questioning her in Calcutta. The ED arrested Anubrata Mandal from Kolkata on the night of 7 March 2023. Anubrata Mandal was arrested by the CBI in this case on 11 July 2022. The ED interrogated Anubrata Mandal in Asansol jail.
