Mumbai: The nearest hill station to Mumbai is known for its biodiversity. Animals, birds and fauna in Matheran, an environmentally sensitive area, have started signaling the arrival of monsoon.
Most of the birds have started building nests. Mumbai Municipal Corporation is not able to complete the pre-monsoon work on time when the birds have almost completed building the nests. The Chatak bird sees the glow and drinks…drinks…and the ants and other animals have started collecting their food before the rains start, said Pawan Gadvir, president of Nisarg Mitra Sanstha.
This nature lover, who has been observing the Matheran forest regularly, said that birds like bulbul, nightingale and crow are busy laying eggs. Some chicks have started leaving the nest. Two days ago, a baby bird fell from a tree in the main market of Matheran and kept trying to fly. Tourists gathered to see the flight attempt of the newborn bird and quickly started making videos and taking pictures with mobile phones.
When the Chatak bird starts chirping, understand that the arrival of monsoon is near. Rainfall is also predicted by the number of eggs laid by the crow. If the crow lays four eggs, it is predicted that there will be good rain, if it lays two eggs, there will be little rain and if it lays one egg, there will be little or no rain at all.
