The Supreme Court has given an important order to get rid of the water shortage in Delhi. The Supreme Court has directed the Haryana government to release the water released by Himachal Pradesh to Delhi without any interruption. The court has said that there should be no politics over water.
A bench of Justices PK Mishra and KV Vishwanathan of the Supreme Court said that the Himachal Pradesh government has no problem in giving its surplus water to Delhi. The Supreme Court has asked Himachal Pradesh to make its surplus water available to Delhi and directed the Haryana government to release the surplus water supplied by Himachal Pradesh to Delhi without any hindrance. The court has ordered Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of additional water every day from Friday, June 7, 2024.
The court asked Haryana to cooperate in bringing water to Delhi through the canal falling in its area. The court also said that the Delhi government should not waste water. All the parties will have to update the progress of the case by Monday, June 10. The next hearing of the case will be on Monday.
The Haryana government objected to the Supreme Court's order and said that it has no way of knowing how much water reached Hathinikund from Himachal. Recently, Water Minister Atishi has written a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath requesting to provide additional water to Delhi for a month.
He has written to the Chief Minister of Haryana, “Delhi is making maximum use of its water resources. To deal with the current crisis, Haryana needs to immediately release additional water into the Yamuna. Along with this, CM Naib Singh Saini completely rejected the allegations of the Delhi government and said that Haryana is giving its share of water to Delhi.
