That is, if you currently spend Rs 500 on monthly TV subscription to watch TV, then your TV subscription rate can increase by about Rs 40. At the same time, if you spend Rs 1000 per month on TV subscription, then it can increase by about Rs 80.

Viacom18 saw the highest growth of 25 per cent

According to a report by ET, telecom regulator TRAI has asked broadcasters not to disconnect signals of distributor platform operators (DPOs) who have not signed contracts in accordance with the new tariffs till the end of the general elections. In January, leading broadcasters increased their base booking rates by around 10 per cent. The report claims that Viacom18 will see the highest hike of around 25 per cent. This means a monthly subscription of around Rs 500 will see an increase of around Rs 125.

Broadcasters put pressure on DPOs to hike rates

According to a report, cricket and entertainment channels have a market share of around 25 per cent and at the same time, the new price hike in subscription rates was to be implemented in February. But it was put on hold due to the elections. In such a situation, it is expected that after the formation of a new government in June, broadcasters may put pressure on DPOs to increase rates. Airtel Digital TV and some similar DPOs have already increased the prices marginally.
