For the first time in Jharkhand, voting took place without violence in all 14 seats: DGP

Ranchi, June 03 (HS). DGP Ajay Kumar Singh has said that for the first time in Jharkhand, voting was completed without violence on all 14 seats. There are 3479 Naxal-affected booths and 9460 sensitive booths in the state. Despite this, there was no violence anywhere. 40 thousand soldiers were deployed in the elections. Apart from the state police, 200 companies of central paramilitary forces were deployed. For the first time, elections were conducted on 40 booths. Earlier, voting had not taken place on these 40 booths. He congratulated the police officers and soldiers engaged in election work.

The DGP said on Monday that soldiers and polling personnel were sent by helicopter to 13 booths in Gumla, 14 in Lohardaga, 126 in Chaibasa, 65 in Latehar and eight in Garhwa. 243 weapons were seized during the model code of conduct. 14,581 licensed weapons were deposited and the license of 2,052 weapons was cancelled. Also, during the investigation, the police seized Rs 84.52 crore.

The DGP said that there has been a decrease in criminal incidents in Jharkhand in the year 2023 as compared to the years 2021 and 2022. He said that incidents like murder, robbery, housebreaking, theft, kidnapping for ransom, rape have decreased in 2023 as compared to the years 2021 and 2022.
