New Delhi, June 03 (HS). The country's coal production has reached 83.91 million tonnes (MT) (provisional) in May. This is 10.15 percent more than 76.18 MT in the same period last year. During this period, the total coal stock with coal companies is 96.48 metric tonnes. At the same time, the coal stock lying with CIL is 83.01 metric tonnes, while captive and other companies have 8.28 metric tonnes.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Coal said that the production of coal in May 2024 was 83.91 million tonnes (MT). Coal production is 10.15 per cent higher than 76.18 MT in the same period last year. During this period, Coal India Limited (CIL) has produced 64.40 MT (provisional) of coal, which is 7.46 per cent more than 59.93 MT produced during the same period last year.
According to the ministry, apart from this, coal production by captive and other entities in May was 13.78 MT (provisional), which shows a growth of 32.76 percent compared to 10.38 MT in the same period last year. Similarly, India's total coal dispatch for May reached 90.84 MT (provisional), which is 10.35 percent more than 82.32 MT in the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Coal, during May, CIL dispatched 69.08 MT (provisional) of coal, which shows a growth of 8.50 percent compared to 63.67 MT in the same period last year. Apart from this, coal dispatch by captive and other entities in May was recorded at 16 MT (provisional), which shows a growth of 29.33 percent compared to 12.37 MT in the same period last year.
