Mumbai, June 03 (HS). Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Monday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressing concern over the increasing drought in the state. He wrote in the letter that due to drought in the state, the condition of the people has become worse than before in the last ten days. If the government does not take immediate measures, then we will have to struggle.
Sharad Pawar has written in a letter to the Chief Minister that due to drought, life in the state has really become chaotic. Farmers and common people are facing problems due to lack of water. There is a shortage of water and fodder for animals. The state government has not played any concrete role so far. If this situation of drought continues in the state and the state government does not take immediate steps, then definitely a struggle will have to be done for the welfare of the people of Maharashtra.
Sharad Pawar further said that on 24 May last month, I held a press conference and drew the attention of the state government to the situation of severe drought in the state of Maharashtra. In the said press conference, I took the stand of cooperating with the state government and jointly dealing with the drought situation. After this, the Chief Minister also held a meeting to review the drought situation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The concerned representatives and ministers were absent in this important meeting, which is not appropriate considering the interest of the state.
Sharad Pawar said that the drought situation has worsened in the last ten days. Important reservoirs like Ujni, Jayakwadi in the state have become empty. The entire Marathwada is facing drought. Its effect is also being felt on the adjacent North Maharashtra, Vidarbha division. There is a severe shortage of water in Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Jalgaon, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldhana districts. People are yearning for water in urban and rural areas. The shortage of water is more worrying in Purandar, Daund, Baramati, Indapur, Man-Khatav, Koregaon, Koregaon of Satara district and talukas of Sangli district as well as Jat, Atpadi of Marathwada and Sangli district.
Sharad Pawar said that last year there were only eleven hundred tankers in the state, but today that number has gone up to more than 11 thousand and sources have to be found to fill water for the tankers. It has become difficult to procure fodder and water for the animals and the livestock of the state is in danger. The condition of the orchards has deteriorated due to lack of water and the state government has not yet made any effort to save the orchards. Drought relief schemes have not reached the bottom. The state government has not taken any new steps to provide relief to the people affected by the drought situation. It has become difficult to remain silent after seeing the plight of the people in this dire situation of drought.
