Film producers went on strike against the exorbitant fees charged by stars

Mumbai: Many films have flopped in Bollywood in the last few months. Usually summer vacations are earning days for Bollywood but this time the summer vacation season is almost empty after the flop of many films. In such a situation, the filmmakers have demanded that the stars should curb their excessive fees to reduce the total cost of film production.

The two major organizations of Bollywood producers, Producers Guild and IMPA, held a meeting on this issue. Representatives of talent management agencies representing various stars were also present in this meeting. They were asked to rationalize the fees of their client stars. It is said that these agencies have assured that they will take steps in this direction.

According to Bollywood producers, the fees of stars in South are barely 20 percent of the total budget.

While 80 per cent of the cost of most projects in Bollywood is on the stars' fees, even the overhead expenses of those stars have increased now whose success at the box office is not guaranteed. As filmmaker Farah Khan complained recently, every hero demands three vanity vans for himself. If the shooting takes place at a foreign location, he also brings his unnecessary personal staff and puts their expenses on the producer's head.

According to the producers, the fees of the stars should increase or decrease depending on how their previous films have performed at the box office.

However, in some circumstances some stars have also reduced their fees. Recently there were reports that some stars including Shahid Kapoor have reduced their fees.
