New Delhi, June 03 (HS). Most parts of the national capital Delhi will be in the grip of heat wave today. This is the forecast of the India Meteorological Department. Due to the strong and scorching sun, people working and traveling in the open will have to face more problems. There may be light drizzle along with dust storm at night. It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already discussed with the officials yesterday about the preparations for the scorching heat and monsoon.
According to the India Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave during the day and thunderstorm and light drizzle at night on Tuesday as well. This will cause a slight drop in temperature and the maximum temperature on Wednesday can remain up to 43 degrees Celsius. Light rain with thunderstorm can also occur in Delhi on June 7. During this time the wind speed can remain 25 to 35 kilometers per hour.
Amidst the scorching sun, the maximum temperature of Delhi on Sunday was recorded at 42.3 degrees Celsius, three degrees Celsius above normal. The minimum temperature was also three degrees Celsius above normal at 30.4 degrees Celsius. Narela and Sports Complex were the hottest areas on Sunday. The maximum temperature in Narela was 45.1 and in Sports Complex it was 45.2 degrees Celsius.
According to a press information office (PBIB) of the Central government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting on the ongoing heat wave in the country and preparations for the onset of monsoon at his residence 7, Lok Kalyan Marg yesterday (Sunday). The Prime Minister was informed that according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts, heat wave conditions are likely to continue in Rajasthan, Gujarat and parts of Madhya Pradesh. This year, the monsoon is likely to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country and below normal in some parts of peninsular India.
The Prime Minister has directed that proper drills should be conducted on a regular basis to prevent and tackle fire incidents. Fire safety and electrical safety of hospitals and other public places should be reviewed regularly. Regular drills should be planned for maintenance of fire-lines in forests and fruitful use of biomass.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the utility of the Forest Fire Portal in the timely identification and management of forest fires. The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Director General of NDRF and Member Secretary, NDMA, along with other senior officials from the PMO and concerned ministries.
