PM Modi visits Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari/New Delhi, May 30 (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Earlier, he offered prayers at the Bhagavathi Amman Temple here.

After the end of the election campaign for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi reached Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu this evening for a brief spiritual sojourn. The Prime Minister will stay in Kanyakumari till June 1. The Prime Minister will meditate at Dhyan Mandapam here. Swami Vivekananda also meditated at this place.

Swami Vivekananda reached Kanniyakumari after travelling across the country and meditated for three days on a rock located at the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, about 500 metres from the mainland. It is believed that it was here that Vivekananda attained enlightenment. This rock is now known as Dhyan Mandapam. Many people believe that like Gautam Buddha's Sarnath, this rock holds special significance in Swami Vivekananda's life.
