The toxin methylene cyclopropyl glycine present in litchi causes a fatal disease called encephalitis. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, encephalitis is caused by inflammation or infection of brain tissue. In which the brain gets swollen. Due to which headache, stiffness in the neck, seizures start.
Never eat litchi on an empty stomach
To avoid the harm caused by litchi, never consume it on an empty stomach. Eating litchi on an empty stomach reduces blood sugar rapidly due to the toxins present in it. Apart from this, conditions like vomiting and cramps can also occur.
How many litchis is safe to eat in a day?
To get the benefits of litchi and avoid its side effects, one should eat 6 to 7 litchis a day. If you have any disease and you are taking medicine, then consult your doctor before consuming litchi.
