Purmandal, May 29 (HS). Apni Party's Jammu provincial president and former minister Manjit Singh on Wednesday demanded regular supply of clean drinking water in the drought hit Kandi belt of scorching heat affected areas of Purmandal in Samba district.
A meeting was held by the party leaders at Gurgani village of Purmandal to discuss the problems of the people of the kandi belt. The people told the former minister that the Jal Shakti department has failed to ensure the supply of clean drinking water in the said village and other areas falling in the kandi belt. Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh assured them that he would highlight their concern before the Jal Shakti department.
He expressed deep concern over the inhuman attitude of the concerned authorities for their inability to provide drinking water to the people of the Kandi area especially when the area is reeling under drought in the midst of scorching heat due to which normal life has been disrupted. He said the Kandi area is suffering due to irregular drinking water supply and often the supply starts after more than a week which creates more problems.
Similarly, people of Kandi area are affected due to unscheduled power cuts and this also affects the drinking water supply. He said that people in Kandi have no source of water so the government should formulate a policy to ensure 24/7 drinking water to the people of Kandi villages. He urged for a long-term policy to deal with this issue.
Meanwhile, Sardar Manjit Singh visited Madana village and met the family members of the victims injured in the mine explosion and enquired about the condition of their injured relatives. He also met the mine explosion victims in the hospital and enquired about their health. He spoke to the hospital administration to provide better treatment to the injured. Raman Thapa, Advocate Lovely Mangol, Bachan Choudhary, Brij Mohan Dutta, Mohammad Shafi etc were present on the occasion.
