You will get relief from spam calls, fraud can also be avoided, Telecom Department has taken a big step

160 Numbers New Series: The Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India has started a separate series of 10 numbers for connected phone calls related to services and transactions from government offices, regulators, financial institutions including banks. The number of this series starts with 160. An order was issued in this regard on Tuesday. Since the phone call of the 10 number series starts with 160, it is known whether the call is from a government office, regulatory body or bank. Also, which telecom company's SIM has been used and which city the call is coming from. This will also be known.

This will also tell you from which city the call has come

The series of 10 numbers to be issued to government offices and regulatory bodies will start with 160. In which the landline code of the telecom company of different cities will also be added. For example, 11 for Delhi, 22 for Mumbai, 079 for Gujarat… so that it can be known where the call has come from.

This is how you need to identify the number

The format of the newly released 10 number series will be 1600ABCXXX. In which instead of C, XXX will have the code of the telecom company and numbers between 000 to 999.

An official release notes that under the 'Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation (TCCPR) 2018', it has been decided to provide a special series of 10 numbers starting with 160 for service and transaction-related phone calls only. Telecom companies have to ensure that the organization is genuine before giving any 160 series number. Also, they have to take a written assurance from the organization that they will use this number only for service and transaction-related phone calls.

This number will continue for SEBI and banks

A series of 10 numbers will also be issued for institutions like banks, SEBI, PFRDA and IRDA. Its format will be slightly different from the previous 1601ABCXXX. That is, 1600 will be replaced by 1601. The rest of the telecom circle code, company code and other details will remain the same.
