MUMBAI: The Pune police has told the court that there is prima facie truth in the complaint filed by Satyaki Savarkar, grandson of Veer Savarkar's brother, against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly defaming Hindu ideology in a speech delivered in 2023 in London.
Prosecution lawyer Sangram Kolhatkar said the said case was mentioned in the investigation report submitted before First Class Judicial Magistrate Akshi Jain.
A defamation complaint was filed in the court in April last year. The court asked the Vishram Bagh police to verify the evidence and submit a report by May 27.
According to the complaint, Rahul Gandhi said in a speech that Savarkar had written in a book that he and his five-six other friends had beaten up a Muslim man and Savarkar was happy.
Terming Rahul's allegations as imaginary, false and malicious, it was claimed that Savarkar had never written anything like this anywhere.
It has been said in the police report that during investigation it was not found anywhere that Savarkar had made any such mention in any book.
