UK General Election 2024: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has made a big announcement before the election. Rishi Sunak said that if the Conservative Party wins the next general election on July 4, we are planning to introduce mandatory military recruitment or alternative service for the youth.
All 18 year olds will adopt it
All 18-year-olds will undergo the new national service, regardless of their background and wherever they live in Britain, Sunak said in an article for a newspaper. He said, young people will have the option of choosing between full-time military service for one year in the British Armed Forces and 25 days of alternative service as a volunteer in the rescue service and other structures.
Only those who pass the tough entrance exam will be recruited
He said, “To those who complain that making it compulsory is unfair, I would like to say that citizenship brings responsibilities along with rights.” Sunak said, this is not our new national service recruitment policy. Only those who pass the tough entrance exam will be recruited in the armed forces.
78 MPs resigned before the elections
In Britain, Sunak's cabinet ministers Michael Gove and Andrea Leadsom have become the latest Conservative Party members to announce their decision not to stand for a second term. The number of party members dropping out of the election race has now risen to 78.
