PM Modi talked about the issues of Varanasi, said- Kashi made me a Banarasi

* It has been observed that even while being the Prime Minister, you hold election rallies. Is it because you like to go among the people or do you feel that you have to shoulder this responsibility to win?

-Elections play a very important role in democracy. In democracy, it is important that the elected representatives reach out to the public and tell them about their work. They take feedback and then pledge to work according to the needs of the public. For the first time, the country is seeing a government that goes to the public with its report card. For us, every vote is the public's stamp on our work.' For 10 years, there have been Prime Ministers in this country who were not elected Prime Ministers. Elections, seeking votes and meeting people did not matter to them. Now I am the Prime Minister but I am also the leader of the BJP. I am performing my duty.

* So you are doing rallies and road shows all over the country but when you reach your parliamentary constituency Varanasi, how is doing a road show or rally there different from other constituencies?

– (Smiling a little) Banaras is something special. Just like you go anywhere but when you reach home and reach your mother, there is a different kind of comfort. Similarly, Banaras is mother for me, Ganga is also mother there. Whenever I go to Banaras, I find a different kind of affinity and attraction. I am the representative of that place, I ask for votes from the people and people support me. Kashi is a multicultural city. This will be clearly visible when you pass through different mohallas during the road show. By now I have filled the nomination form.' The road show started near BHU, where many families from eastern India including Bihar live. Moving ahead, there is Assi mohalla, where you will find many monasteries and ashrams related to South India. Kanchi Kamkotishwar Math is on this route. There are temples built in Uttarakhand style on Kedar Ghat. These are the ghats which were built by the kings of Rajasthan. Road shows and meetings in Kashi bring together the cultures of the whole of India. For me, this is the strongest form of 'Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat'.

* When you came to Banaras ten years ago, you said that Maa Ganga had called me. Then you said that Maa Ganga had adopted me. What would you say about the influence of Maa Ganga in your life?

– (After a brief silence) He said that there is something in Kashi that cannot be described in words. The city where Ganga flows, Baba Vishwanath is worshipped and Maa Annapurna is blessed, that is Kashi. When I came here, I came as a public representative. Now as a family representative. So I say that Kashi has made me a Banarasi. Whenever I come to Kashi, people meet me with great love. Kashi feels like a family. 10 years ago Maa Ganga called me to Kashi but now it seems that she has adopted me as her son.

– In Punjab, BJP has been contesting elections without an alliance for nearly three decades. As long as we were in alliance, our scope was limited. We were bound by the rules of coalition Dharma. Even at that time, we did not shy away from doing public welfare, but then we did not get the opportunity to expand in every district, every village of Punjab. In the 2024 elections, BJP is going among the people with the vision of development of the country and Punjab. The work done by the BJP government at the Center in the last ten years has increased people's trust in BJP. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are contesting elections separately in Punjab but are campaigning together in Delhi and other parts of the country. They may want to say anything in Punjab, but the public knows the truth.

* In Bihar, NDA still reminds us of Jungle Raj, whereas it has been 20 years since Lalu Raj ended. What would you like to say?

– Bad memories of anything in the world remain in the mind for years. For example, the people of the country have not been able to forget the terrible memories of the Emergency till now. Whenever there is a discussion about how a government can suppress people, how it can suppress the voice of protest, the Emergency immediately comes to mind. Similarly, there are some memories of Jungle Raj as well. Even though some time has passed, everyone remembers what people have seen, suffered, endured. Loot, murder, robbery, extortion, open crime against women cannot be forgotten. Due to this, people migrated and they have been away from Bihar for 20-30 years, yet these things do not go out of their mind. Those who had seen all this or who had forgotten, their government which lasted for some time reminded them of everything. The terrible memories of that period were refreshed. They have shown that if they get power again, they can do even more terrible things than before. Every day there will be murders, robberies, dacoities, there will be a state where there will be no law and order. They have made such a condition.

* As the conflict is increasing at the international level, it is believed that the coming days will be of crisis and conflict. What will be India's position in that?

– We all are seeing that the world is coming out of such a phase. First, there are two major conflicts going on regarding Covid. They have affected various sectors. Especially the prices of food items, oil and fertilizers have increased or their supply is low. This has happened everywhere in the world. At such a time, India has resolved that the country should not have any shortage of food, oil and fertilizer. The situation of conflict in the world may get worse but I believe that the right time for development has come for India. We have to increase the pace of development so that the dream of developed India can be fulfilled. Therefore, a stable and full majority government is very important in the country.
