Chandigarh, May 25 (HS). Voting for ten Lok Sabha and one assembly seats in Haryana was completed peacefully on Saturday. While 70.34 percent voting took place in the state during the Lok Sabha elections held in the year 2019, 63.02 percent voting took place till 7 pm today.
This time the Election Commission had set a target of 75 percent voting. Nautapa has also started in the state from Saturday itself. The effect of severe heat was seen on the voting. 62 EVMs had to be replaced during the mock poll held before the voting started at 7 am in the state. Even after the voting started, there were reports of EVMs malfunctioning in Panipat and Hisar, due to which the voting process was interrupted for some time.
During voting today, there were many Lok Sabha constituencies in the state where even the booths of Indian National Lok Dal, Jannayak Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party were not seen. Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party booths were set up at almost all places. Many voters from Hisar, Karnal and Jind also claimed that their vote was cast by someone else.
Most of the BJP candidates in the state voted in the first two hours of the morning after offering prayers at temples and other religious places, while Congress candidates and leaders came out for voting after 11 a.m. In Haryana's Bhiwani, there was an argument between BJP MLA Ghanshyam Saraf and Congress supporters over voting. Police reached the spot and controlled the situation.
There was an argument between Congress and BJP workers in Yamunanagar. Seeing this, the police reached the spot and pacified the matter. In Ghodo Pipli village of Yamunanagar, people had already announced to boycott the elections. Due to this, the employees also came to the booth in the village today but no one came to cast the vote. The booths remained empty till 2 pm and not a single vote was cast.
The health of the head constable posted on duty at booth number 20 in Rohtak's Farmana village deteriorated and he was admitted to Meham Civil Hospital. A rumour spread that bogus voting was being done by the police personnel in Sanghi, the native village of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda. The police said that this was a rumour being spread on social media.
There was a ruckus in Ambala after throwing the poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the drain. Congress and BJP workers clashed with each other in front of the police. Workers of both the parties started fighting with each other. During this, the police present on the spot remained a silent spectator. Seeing the deteriorating situation, additional police force was deployed. After the ruckus between Congress-BJP workers at a booth in Yamuna Nagar, the leader of India Alliance said that the police has committed excesses in this matter. An ASI posted on election duty lathicharged a Congress worker. The leader alleged that his legs were broken due to police beating.
