Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has revealed that he was approached for the soon-to-be-retired head coach of the Indian team but turned it down as the role did not fit into my lifestyle. Ponting, who completed seven seasons as the head coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, was also Australia's temporary T20 coach earlier. Without revealing whether there was an offer from the BCCI for the coaching position, Ponting said there were general discussions during the league to see if I was interested in the role. I would love to be the senior coach of the national team but there are other things in my life and I also want to spend some time with my family. Everyone knows that if you work with the Indian team you cannot join the IPL team.
Ponting said that being the head coach of India is equivalent to working 10 to 11 months a year. It does not match my lifestyle and the things I really like. My family and children have been staying with me for the last five weeks during the IPL. My son is impressed by the culture of cricket in India.
