Olympic medalist PV Sindhu of India defeated Korea's Sim Yu Jin in three games to enter the women's singles quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters Super badminton tournament. Former world champion and world number 15 Sindhu defeated 34th ranked Yu Jin of Korea 21-13, 12-21, 21-14 in the second round after a 59-minute battle. This is her third win against the Korean player. The Hyderabadi player, who returned to the court fully fit after a knee injury in October last year, failed to perform at her best. Sindhu will next face top seed Han Yu Se Som. The Chinese player defeated Sindhu in the Asia Badminton last month. However, Sindhu has won five out of six matches against the sixth seeded player.
In other matches of the tournament, Sumit Reddy and Sikki Reddy lost to top-seeded Malaysian pair Chen Teng Jie and Toh Ee Wei 9-21, 15-21 in mixed doubles. Simran Sindhi and Ritika Thakkar lost 17-21, 11-21 to second-seeded Malaysian pair Pearly Tan and Thina Muralitharan in women's doubles.
