He was fond of singing since childhood
Asa Singh Mastana was born on 22 August 1927 in Sheikhpura, Pakistan to father Pritam Singh and mother Amrit Kaur. He was fond of singing since childhood. He received basic music education from Pandit Durga Prasad. However, sweetness in voice was his natural gift and his choice of good poetry was due to his sharp intellect and good taste.
Honoured with Padma Shri Award
After the partition of the country, he settled in Delhi. His first song was broadcasted on radio in 1949, 'Thandiye hawa ki pasiyaan tu ae ae'. He is a Punjabi singer who was awarded the national award of Padma Shri in 1985. Apart from this, in the list of countless honors he received, it was also a matter of pride to be honored by the Geet Natya Academy in 1986. He also sang many duets but never let his songs become slack. He sang the most duets with Punjab's nightingale Surinder Kaur. However, he also sang many songs with Pushpa Hans and Prakash Kaur. He will always remain alive in the memories of Punjabi people because of his songs.
