What did the High Court say in the order?
The division bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajshekhar Mantha in the Calcutta High Court gave this decision while hearing a PIL on Wednesday. In this PIL, questions were raised on the process of issuing OBC certificates. In this case, the court gave instructions that OBC certificates should be made as per the procedures prescribed by the West Bengal Backward Commission constituted under the 1993 Act.
Big blow to appeasement politics- BJP
After the High Court's decision, BJP leader Amit Malviya gave his reaction by posting on the social media platform X. He said, “Mamata Banerjee's appeasement politics has suffered another setback.” The Calcutta High Court has abolished the reservation of Muslims in the OBC sub-category. Along with this, the High Court has also canceled all OBC certificates issued between 2010 and 2024. If the people recruited during this period succeed in saving their jobs, they will not be entitled to any other benefits.
