Jaipur, May 20 (HS). Players were made aware in a seminar organized by the Sports Board under the chairmanship of Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor Professor Alpana Kateja to avoid doping.
Sports Board Secretary Dr. Preeti Sharma informed about all the disadvantages of doping and also expressed the need to establish a Regional Anti-Doping Agency to further curb doping. Medical Jury Member of NADA, Dr. Sanjogita Sudan said that earlier we used to get one case every fifteen days, but now four cases are coming to us in a week. More female players are being found dope positive than men. Pressure from his family is a major reason behind this. Not only this, the desire to get a job is taking them in this direction. This has to be avoided. He also told that players who do not give samples there are considered positive without testing. Therefore, to avoid all this, players should take medicines only from MBBS doctors and not take medicines themselves. The players were also instructed to consult a doctor whenever necessary and inform them about their illness as well as their status as players.
The guest speaker of the lecture was G.L. Sharma, Chief Cardiologist, Primary Health Care Centre, Jaipur, discussed various types of drugs and doping methods with the players.
Chief guest of the program, Arjun Awardee and Olympian Gopal Saini said that being natural is beneficial. Doping provides benefits in the short term but causes harm in the long run. Therefore, we should stay safe and the more aware people are, the better it will be. Shri Gopal Saini shared his past experiences.
In this seminar, all the experts have advised to stay away from supplements and medicines, because sometimes players unknowingly take medicines and their dope report comes positive. Even after drinking four cups of coffee, the report comes back positive. Therefore all these things should be avoided.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Maurya concluded the program by explaining the disadvantages of doping and Surendra Meena thanked all the visitors, researchers, students and media persons.
