Hooghly, May 19 (Hindustan Reporter) A private hospital in Kolkata kept the body of a poor woman in the hospital for hours due to non-payment of hospital bills. After getting information about the incident, when Rishra Chairman Vijay Sagar Mishra reached the spot, the hospital officials finally handed over the body to his family members.
Actually, Radhika Devi Ram, a resident of ward number seven of Rishra Municipality, was admitted to B.P. Kolkata in the early hours of Saturday after suffering a heart attack. Was admitted to Poddar Hospital. A few hours after being admitted to the hospital, Radhika died in the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Family members allege that Radhika was admitted to the hospital with the Swasthya Sathi card. But despite this, after the death of Radhika, the hospital handed over a bill of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh to her family. Radhika's family, who earns their living by selling vegetables, had no option but to cry after seeing such a huge hospital bill. After getting information about the case, Rishra Municipality Chairman Vijay Sagar Mishra reached the hospital and after the intervention of the police, Radhika's body was finally handed over to her family members in the hospital in the early hours of Sunday.
During a special conversation with “Hindusthan Samachar” on Sunday, Mishra said that the behavior of the hospital was extremely inhumane. Radhika was admitted to the hospital with the Swasthya Sathi card. Despite this, the hospital handed over a bill of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh to his family. When Radhika's family expressed their inability to pay the bill, the hospital refused to hand over the body to them. This was extremely inhumane. After hearing the news I myself went to the hospital. I also immediately contacted the local police station. The police immediately swung into action and the hospital staff handed over the body to his family.
Mishra further said that the people of Rishra have made me the chairman. I am always with the people of Rishra in every convenience and inconvenience.
