Ranchi, May 18 (HS). Chief Secretary L Khyangte has sought a report on the complete status of the Urban Haat scheme under construction at Kanke in Ranchi. In this regard, he has written a letter to the Urban Development Department on Saturday. Following the instructions of the Chief Secretary Office, the Urban Development Department has also asked the Municipal Commissioner Ranchi Municipal Corporation to give an updated report on the status of the Urban Heart Scheme.
After spending about Rs 10 crore in the Urban Haat construction scheme in the capital Ranchi, it has been stopped, that is, this amount has been wasted and the scheme has still not come to fruition. The work of planning Urban Haat was started in the year 2016 itself and the place where the work started, there was already a lot of forest cover. However, later the then Chief Minister raised questions on its utility and ordered its closure. After completing the incomplete construction, there was a thought of building a skill development center or a girls hostel there, but it is still on paper only.
Work on the Urban Heart scheme was started with the idea of providing a bigger market to the traders. Urban Haat was to be built to provide a bigger platform to local craftsmen, traditional food and artists. Apart from this, the aim was to bring shops of artisans from across the country and provide a market to the local artisans to sell their products. There, training centers and business activities were to be conducted to provide employment to the local youth.
