New Delhi, May 17 (Hindustan Reporter) India has said that the United States understands the importance of Chabahar port and its vital role as far as the region is concerned, especially for the landlocked countries in the region.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in the weekly media briefing on Friday that on May 13, we signed a long-term agreement for the operation of Chabahar port. Our ministers were there. This is a big achievement. He said that we see this as India's commitment towards realizing Chabahar.

We are committed to using Chabahar as a connectivity hub for Afghanistan and landlocked Central Asian countries. This port is being operated by Indian Ports Global Limited since 2018. Through this port we have been able to provide a lot of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

During this, he also said that America also understands the importance of Chabahar port. It has an important role as far as the region and its connectivity are concerned, especially for the landlocked countries in the region.

It is noteworthy that an agreement related to the operation of Chabahar port was signed between India and Iran on May 13. Under this, India will develop and operate Iran's strategic Chabahar port for 10 years. This agreement will boost regional connectivity and relations with Afghanistan, Central Asia and Eurasia. The US has ignored the exemption it had given to India, warning of possible sanctions on any entity doing business deals with Iran after this agreement.

On the fourth Indian arrested by Canada in the Nijjar murder case, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we have seen the report of the arrest of the fourth person. We have not yet been given formal information about this. We have also not received any request for consular access.

On relations with Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that our exchanges with Taiwan continue in the cultural, economic, trade, investment and scientific fields. We will continue these exchanges.
