The mortal remains of Rajmata Madhavi Raje Scindia, mother of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, were cremated in a traditional royal manner at Chhatri on Katoratal Road here on Thursday. The funeral pyre was lit by his son Jyotiraditya Scindia. Rajmata Madhavi Raje Scindia died on Wednesday morning 15 May at AIIMS, Delhi. She was unwell for the last three-four months. He was having difficulty breathing due to lung infection. Meanwhile, critical situations arose several times. Jyotiraditya Scindia who was busy in the election campaign had to leave the election and go to Delhi. His health suddenly deteriorated again in the early hours of Wednesday and his breathing broke. On Thursday morning, his mortal remains were brought to Gwalior by a special plane. A large number of people from nearby areas including Gwalior gathered at Rani Mahal to see the mortal remains. Thousands of people paid homage to the mortal remains of Rajmata. The process of paying homage started at 12 noon and continued till 3:30 pm. After this, the last journey of Rajmata started in a royally decorated palanquin. A large number of leaders, activists, people from social and cultural organizations including BJP and Congress participated in the last journey that started from the palace. They were walking with slogans like 'May Rajmata remain immortal and 'As long as the sun and moon remain, the name of Rajmata will remain'. People standing on the roadside to see the last journey also showered flowers on the mortal remains. The mortal remains of the Queen Mother were cremated on a platform prepared in advance in Chhatri, performing all the rituals in full rituals and in a traditional royal manner. Union Minister Jyotiraditva cremated the mortal remains at 6:35 pm. As soon as the funeral pyre was lit, the public bid a final farewell by chanting 'Long live Rajmata'.
