Giridih, 16 May (Hindus). Koderma Lok Sabha seat of the state is considered a traditional seat of BJP. In the 13 Lok Sabha elections held here, BJP has won six times while Congress has won twice. Apart from Koderma assembly constituency, this Lok Sabha constituency includes Barkatta of Hazaribagh district, Dhanwar of Giridih, Bagodar, Jamua and Gandey assembly constituencies. This parliamentary constituency is known for mica. Besides, being on the border of Bihar, it is also called the gateway to Jharkhand. Annapurna Devi is currently the MP from here and is also a minister at the Centre.
Late Ritlal Verma became MP five times
Koderma Lok Sabha seat was formed in 1977. In the first Lok Sabha elections held in 1977, Ritlal Prasad Verma of Bharatiya Lok Dal won from Koderma Lok Sabha seat. Ritlal Prasad Verma of Janata Party won the 1980 Lok Sabha elections. In the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Ritlal Prasad Verma again won from this seat. Janata Dal won from here in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Ritlal Prasad Verma once again won from here. In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, this seat was won by Tilakdhari Prasad Singh of the Indian National Congress.
This time the electoral equations have changed a lot in Koderma Lok Sabha seat as compared to five years ago. This time the contest here is triangular. Annapurna Devi of BJP, Vinod Singh from Indi alliance and independent Jaiprakash Verma are the main candidates here. There are 15 candidates in the fray in Koderma. Union Minister and current MP Annapurna Devi is contesting from Koderma Lok Sabha seat for the second time. Annapurna Devi, who joined BJP from RJD in 2019, defeated JVM candidate Babulal Marandi by 4 lakh 50 thousand votes. But the situation has changed since that time. Babulal is now seeking votes for Annapurna Devi through BJP.
Situation changed assembly wise
But if we assess the situation assembly wise, it does not seem to be very effective. Kalpana Soren is contesting from JMM in the by-elections being held from Gandey Assembly, the impact of which will also be visible on the Lok Sabha elections. Jayaprakash Verma, who was the BJP MLA from here, had last time sought votes for Annapurna Devi, but this time he himself is an independent candidate in the Lok Sabha elections, this is also harmful for the BJP. Bagodar MLA Vinod Singh is the candidate of Indi alliance, so his strength in Bagodar is natural which is also visible. CPI (ML) has a strong hold in Dhanwar Assembly also, Rajkumar Yadav has been the ML MLA from here. This hold has become stronger with JMM and other parties also. In Jamua, BJP candidate Annapurna Devi, CPI(ML)'s Vinod Singh and independent Jaiprakash Verma, currently all three seem to have a strong hold.
Last time in 2019 in Barkatha Legislative Assembly, then MLA Janaki Yadav and current MLA Amit Yadav both had sought votes for BJP and gave a big lead to BJP here. But this time the situation has changed, the resentment of BJP workers is definitely visible. Janaki Yadav has left BJP and joined JMM a few days ago. In such a situation, the situation is no longer the same for BJP here.
Naturally BJP looks strong in numbers in Koderma Assembly. Dr. Neera Yadav of BJP is the MLA from here. But the extent to which people are expressing their displeasure in Indarwa, Domchanch Nagar Panchayat adjacent to Koderma or Charadih, the home panchayat of MP Annapurna Devi, is indicating something new. Shalini Gupta, who was the president of the Zilla Parishad in the last Lok Sabha elections, had also sought votes for BJP. This time, despite being in AJSU, she does not seem to be in favor of BJP. Certainly, mathematically this will also prove to be disadvantageous for BJP. Overall, there is a big challenge for BJP this time on Koderma seat. However, it is natural for the voters benefited from the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, Article 370 and other beneficial schemes including free food grains to be influenced towards the BJP candidate. Despite this, due to the changed circumstances, it is unlikely that BJP will be able to repeat the victory margin of 2019.
Candidates are claiming their respective victories
During the election campaign, Annapurna Devi told the people that every vote of yours will be for the progress of the country. Every vote will be for the safety of women and the country, every vote of yours will be for the honor of the country which will strengthen the hands of Narendra Modi. He claimed victory.
Vinod Singh said that CPI(ML) will stand with you in every justice. The present MP has never been vocal about the problems here, if people give her an opportunity, she will leave no stone unturned in the development of the area. It was also said that this time Koderma is changing.
Jaiprakash Verma said that the people in Koderma want change this time. There has been no development work in the area in the last five years, mica and stone industries are at a standstill and people are troubled. He is getting support from every section in the elections. He claimed victory.
Now it remains to be seen whether Annapurna Devi wins again in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections or not.
