Price of gram increased by Rs 300 per quintal due to import duty free

New Delhi: On May 3, the Central Government announced the removal of duty on import of gram. On May 4, the wholesale price of gram in Delhi was Rs 50. 6,350 to Rs. Which has increased to Rs 6,400 today. 6,650 to Rs. 6,700 per quintal. During this period, the price of gram in Maharashtra's Akola mandi has also increased by Rs 300 from Rs 6,450 to Rs 6,550 per quintal. The government has removed import duty to reduce the price of gram. But instead of decreasing, the prices of gram have increased.

India Pulses and Grains Association said the government has made its import duty free to curb the rising prices of gram. But till now there has been no reduction in the price of gram due to this decision, rather its price has increased by Rs 100 to Rs 150 per quintal. Even after the removal of import duty, the reason behind gram becoming expensive is its low production.

The government estimate of gram production is 120 lakh tonnes. But the industry's estimate is 80 lakh tonnes, whereas the consumption of gram is around 100 lakh tonnes.

According to market experts, the upward trend in gram prices may continue for a long time. Due to Indian demand, gram has become expensive in the global market. At current global prices, imported gram is costlier than gram prices in the domestic market. Along with this, there is a possibility of import of gram from Tanzania to India only after August.

After the new crop, gram is also expected to be imported from Australia from November. Obviously, at present there is not much possibility of import of gram. In such a situation, the price of gram may still increase.
