Potato prices will continue to spoil the budget of housewives till the end of this year

The wholesale inflation rate has increased to 1.26 percent in April. Which is the highest rate in the last 13 months. Due to this, food items have become expensive. Although inflation has shown its impact, housewives may still have to suffer its consequences in the long run. Because, now reports are coming that potato prices will continue to spoil the household budget of Indian families till the end of the year. Potato prices may remain high until the new potato crop is harvested in December. Potato prices rose 71.97 percent in April after rising 52.96 percent in March.

Potato traders believe that the price of this crop may increase further by five to ten percent. Seasonal rains and cold storage owners have marketed the potato crop to meet domestic demand for the crop until the new crop arrives. While Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of potatoes, the local government has already launched a campaign to ask whether potatoes are being hoarded in Agra, the largest cold storage area, to drive up prices. It is also expected that after the Lok Sabha elections are over, there will be statewide surveillance to keep an eye on potato smuggling.

The stock of potatoes in cold storage is decreasing, because people are eating potatoes more as food while other vegetables have suffered damage due to the unbearable heat and heat wave in the country. Therefore, where the demand for potatoes is high and the supply is low, the price is sure to increase.
