Bhopal, 14 May (HS). The state government has suspended four officers in the fake bill scam of about Rs 100 crore in Indore Municipal Corporation. Finance Department Under Secretary Vijay Kathane has issued orders in this regard on Tuesday. These four officers were posted in the Local Audit Fund Department of the Corporation for a long time. It was his responsibility to carefully inspect the files and send them for payment, but he was negligent in this work and he himself was found involved in the scam.
Finance Department Under Secretary Vijay Kathane suspended Joint Director Anil Kumar Garg. It was Garg who had approved the bills of fake files and the contractors were also paid. Apart from Garg, Deputy Directors Samar Singh Parmar, Rameshwar Parmar and JA Ohria have also been suspended. All four have been sent into the ocean. These four officers had approved the bills, whereas if they had inspected the files closely, the scam could have been detected earlier. Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma had written to the state government regarding the investigation into the scam of these four officers.
Indore Mayor Pushya Mitra Bhargava said that bills for two-three years old works were imposed for payment. If funds from the budget were being spent for works, then it was the responsibility of the then officers to physically verify those works, but they did not pay attention to it. He said that his role should also be investigated in a high level investigation. He said that there is a law to recover the amount of scam from the scam officers only. He said that the drain tapping project should also be investigated.
