Brisbane, May 14 (HS). Former South Africa limited-overs captain Johan Botha has been appointed the new head coach of Brisbane Heat and Queensland for the next three years. Brisbane Heat gave the above information on Tuesday.
Botha, 42, will replace Wade Secombe. Queensland WNCL and Brisbane Heat women's coach Ashley Noffke and former England all-rounder Adam Hollioake were also in the running for the post. The coaching recruitment process was conducted by Queensland's Head of Elite Cricket Joe Dawes, CEO Terry Swenson and Queensland Board of Directors and former Test wicketkeeper Ian Healy.
Botha is an Australian citizen after moving to Adelaide in 2012 to play full-time for South Australia, effectively ending his international career with South Africa after playing five Tests, 78 ODIs and 40 T20Is, including This also included captaining his country in 21 white ball matches.
He captained South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup for two years. Botha has extensive experience playing in the BBL and has played 71 matches with the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes.
He has gained extensive coaching experience around the world in recent years. He has been the head coach of three PSL teams, Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United. He also coached the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL.
He was the head coach of the Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20 last season, although they finished last, and was the assistant coach of the Seattle Orcas in the MLC. He was also most recently the assistant coach of the Strikers in the BBL until 2022–23.
Queensland Cricket's Head of Elite Cricket Joe Dawes said Botha would begin his tenure with the Heat and Bulls with pre-season training on June 3.
“Johan is an extremely driven and determined individual and he has consistently displayed those qualities throughout his playing and coaching career. “He is at the forefront of the game at the international level and will bring a fresh and dynamic perspective to our organization and particularly the Bulls and championship Brisbane Heat squad.”
Botha expressed his delight at joining Queensland Cricket.

The Bulls are deeply concerned with success, and I have no doubt that the playing group already aspires to be intensely competitive this summer.”
