75.66 percent voting on eight Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, fate of many star candidates captured in EVMs

Kolkata, May 13 (Hindustan Reporter) In West Bengal, 75.66 percent voting took place till 5 pm on Monday in eight Lok Sabha constituencies. With this, the fate of many star candidates has been sealed in EVMs. Bolpur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency has recorded the highest voting percentage of 77.77 percent.

According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, 77.46 percent in Ranaghat (SC), 77.36 percent in Burdwan-East, 77.29 percent in Krishnanagar, 75.45 percent in Birbhum (SC), 75.36 percent in Baharampur, 75.02 percent in Burdwan-Durgapur. Percentage and 69.43 percent voting took place in Asansol. There were a total of 1 crore 45 lakh 30 thousand 17 voters, out of which 73 lakh 84 thousand 356 were males, 71 lakh 45 lakh 379 were females and 282 were voters of the third gender. Voting took place at 15 thousand 507 polling stations.

This election will decide the political fate of star candidates like Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Trinamool Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha, Mahua Moitra and Yusuf Pathan, BJP's SS Ahluwalia and Dilip Ghosh. The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), including migrant workers, drinking water supply and closure of industries, have been the main issues in the elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had held several rallies and road shows in support of their respective party candidates on these seats. Lok Sabha member and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary is contesting from Berhampur for the sixth consecutive time, his dominance is going to be tested on this seat which has been his stronghold for the last three decades. Trinamool has fielded former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan on this seat.
