India ends campaign with two quotas |Live Updates,Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Istanbul, May 13 (HIST). India ended its campaign at the World Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers with two Paris Olympics 2024 quotas, clinched by wrestlers Aman Sehrawat and Nisha Dahiya in the men's and women's categories respectively.

Nisha and Aman have taken the quota of Indian wrestlers to six. This competition in Istanbul was the last chance for India to achieve Paris 2024 quota in wrestling.

On the final day of the event on Sunday, Sujit Kalkal and Jaideep Ahlawat suffered defeats in their bronze medal bouts.

Bajrang Punia, who won a bronze medal in men's 65kg at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, was not part of the Indian wrestling team for the qualifiers.

Jaideep Ahlawat, who made it to the repechage round of 74 kg after losing in the quarter-finals, had to face a close 2-1 defeat against Turkey's Soner Demirtas in the bronze medal match. He had earlier defeated Arslan Amanamiradov of Turkmenistan 11-0 in the repechage round.

A total of 14 Indian wrestlers played in the qualifiers from 9 to 12 May.

Aman secured an Olympic 2024 quota in the 57 kg category, India's first quota in the men's freestyle category for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya, silver medalist in the 57 kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, also failed to make it to the Indian team for the qualifiers. Deepak Punia, who finished fifth in the 2020 Olympics, could not win the quota for his country.

Nisha secured the second quota for India in the women's 68 kg category at this competition, making it the fifth Paris 2024 quota by an Indian female wrestler.

Finalist Panghal (53kg) secured the first quota for India during the 2023 World Wrestling Championships, while Vinesh Phogat (50kg), Anshu Malik (57kg) and Ritika Hooda (76kg) won the berths at the Asian Qualifiers held in Bishkek last month. Quota increased during.
