'Erms in every field, trees on every ridge' will improve the environment, production will increase, farmers will prosper – News India Live

Mirzapur, 08 May (HS). A program was organized on National Agroforestry Day on Wednesday in Terha village under Pahari block under the ongoing dry agriculture research project at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Kashi Hindu University (BHU). Also, 'Narendra Amla-7' variety saplings were distributed to the farmers to encourage agro-forestry.

Chief Scientist Prof. Anupam Kumar Nema discussed various topics with the farmers. He explained the benefits of forestry along with agriculture and gave information about increasing the productivity of the fields by planting trees along with agriculture. He also listened to the problems of the farmers and solved them. Told that farmers can increase their income by growing trees like Amla, Mango, Guava, Neem, Teak, Poplar etc. in their fields. Growing plants in the fields through agroforestry will be helpful in reducing the ill effects of climate change.

Assistant Scientist Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rajput said that planting trees in the fields will improve the environment in dry areas and agricultural production will also increase. Trees increase the oxygen level in the atmosphere and reduce carbon dioxide. Apart from this, trees improve the quality of soil.

On the lines of Bundelkhand, plant trees on the ridges of fields in Vindhya region, soil quality will improve.

He also informed about various schemes related to carbon credits of the government to the farmers to increase their income. A successful example was given from the Bundelkhand region, where one of the slogans of the farmers is 'There is a ridge in every field, a tree on every ridge'. There, farmers are planting trees on farm ridges, which improves permanent moisture conservation in the field and enhances soil quality.
