Israel and Hamas war: There is a long-running war between Hamas and Israel and Israel is fighting on many fronts but is moving forward with determination. Hamas announced late Monday that it had accepted the terms of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. However, despite this announcement, the Rafah area of Palestine was attacked by Israeli forces. The Jewish state said the Palestinian militant group's terms do not meet its “key demands” and it planned to continue further negotiations on a ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Defense Forces then announced that they were targeting Hamas terrorist positions in eastern Rafah. According to reports, Israeli tanks have entered Egypt's last bastion Rafah, reaching within 200 meters of the Egyptian border.
Hamas reportedly said in a statement on its official website that it had informed mediators in Qatar and Egypt of its decision. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh confirmed Hamas' approval of the ceasefire deal proposal in a telephone conversation with Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egypt's Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel.
Hamas said that now it is up to Israel to respond. However, the details of the ceasefire agreement, particularly its duration and the number of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, are still unknown. There were also reports that Israel has not completely agreed to the ceasefire agreement but there has been no official response from its side yet.
As talks resumed in Egypt on Sunday to negotiate a deal to end Israel's Gaza offensive in exchange for the release of hostages by Hamas, Netanyahu said Israel is committed to ending the war in Gaza and will do everything possible. Will keep the Gaza Strip free from Hamas at any cost.
