A day after Telangana Police submitted the closure report in the Rohith Vemula death case, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday hit out at the Congress for politicizing the case. He said that political discussion should never be linked to sensitive matters. In fact, in the case of Rohit Vemula's death, the police has filed a closure report in the court, in which it has been claimed that Rohit was not a Dalit. In 2016, he committed suicide because he feared that everyone would know his real caste.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that the case of Rohith Vemula's death could have been completely handled by the university but it was made a story against the government and BJP and spread across the country. I would like to cite the Rohith Vemula case as an example of how it was used politically. After all, how the university did not handle that unfortunate incident with full sensitivity and a narrative was created against the government.
Rahul Gandhi raised this issue in Parliament
Congress's Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of Vemula's suicide in Parliament. In this regard, he accused the Central Government and former Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani of doing caste based politics. Now today the facts have come out, we know that the story was fabricated. In this case the pressure and toxic environment was not created by the government, but by vested interest groups.
