All spices and ready-to-eat foods exported from India to Singapore and Hong Kong will be sent to these countries after passing the ETO test. The Spices Board of the Government of India has issued this order. This major step has been taken by the Spices Board of the Government of India after Singapore and Hong Kong sent back two major Indian brands of spices after ethylene oxide was found in them.
Spices exported to these countries will first undergo mandatory ethylene oxide testing in the country and later they will be sent to the countries. The Spices Board in its order also said that the maximum amount of ethylene oxide in a food item in Singapore is 50ppm and in Hong Kong it is zero, meaning Indian companies will be able to send spices and other ready-to-eat to Hong Kong when they are lab tested. products will not be detected at all.
