Mumbai: The municipality has started the restoration work of the ancient Banganga lake at Walkeshwar in south Mumbai, which was sanctified by the sacred feet of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman.
First of all, the lake will be deepened by removing silt and 16 pillars will be beautified. According to the information given by the officials of 'D' ward of the municipality, the stone stairs of the lake will be repaired.
A circular Bhakti Parikrama Marg will be built on the banks of the lake like Varanasi. The renovation work will be done in three phases.
In the first phase, repair of stone stairs, reconstruction of the light house of the lake complex and attractive lighting will be done. In the second phase, the houses around the lake will be painted uniformly. Ramkund will be revived. The temple will be maintained.
In the third phase, a road will be constructed between Banganga and the shores of the Arabian Sea. For this, first of all the slums will be removed and the slum dwellers will be rehabilitated. So far 13 huts have been removed from Pagthiya and their residents have been rehabilitated.
